WOLFTRANE is an original blues rock band with a driving beat and an aggressive guitar style that is inspired by greats such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert King, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and BB King. The band's live repertoire consists of mostly originals along with a handful of covers from Eric Clapton/Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Stevie Wonder and others.
The band’s origins date back to November 1998 when Richard Cruz Jr. (singer/guitarist)founded the band. Together with Ray Jefferson (bass), and Michael McQuilken (drums), they create a musical dynamic that uniquely defines the songs and style of Wolftrane.
Wolftrane has played at some of the most popular venues in San Diego over the years including Brick by Brick, The Hard Rock Cafe and 2 consecutive years at the Showcase Stage at the San Diego County Fair. In 2000 the band completed it's first self-produced CD and sold them at gigs. In March of 2002 the band was featured on San Diego’s KUSI Channel 51 morning news where they performed live in the studio.
In 2006 the band released a limited edition live CD to fans while they re-recorded the 1st album with proper studio production. The album Wolftrane was released in Feb of 2009 on the band's own Wolftrane Records Label. Blues internet radio stations currently play 3 songs from the disc on 1.FM's Blues Station and on a few German internet radio stations. The album was also released worldwide on iTunes, Amazon, Napster and just about all music download stores. 2 tracks from the album are also featured on 2 different iTunes blues compilations.
